This week we shot some fashion portraits with Trinity from DVM Model Management and the pictures look awesome.
Full size pics and more over in my portfolio.
It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally almost here. My new clothing brand Annotation is finally so close to launch and you can check out the website at annotationclothing.com.
After years of designing my own clothes I have been working for a while to turn my love of fashion into something I can share with others. As a designer, I love finding the balance between contrasts: feminine and masculine shapes; the softness of silk and rayon and the coarseness of linen. Annotation makes cool, simple and seasonless clothes, a minimal style that is meant to feel comfortable.
Living in Guangzhou really made me realize how accessible entry into the industry could be. The fabric markets are huge and there are large and small factories around every corner. Everyone is some kind of entrepreneur, all it takes is a bunch of learning and hard work. So here we are back in Canada at last, bringing my first collection to market!
And of course, please go to our website to get your shopping on.
Another day, another gorgeous model test-shoot.

Everything seemed to come together just perfectly for this shoot with Santa. We shot in an undeveloped parking garage in an half-developed mall, underground one of the busiest districts in Guangzhou. You would never know this location was there from the outside and it was just crazy luck that Chris even found it. And it was perfect. When I described my ideal location – dark and gritty feeling, like an abandoned building but with a giant wall-sized window on one side – I knew how impossible it sounded. But through some kind of magic, Chris managed to find this place. Not only is he a wicked photographer, but a damn good urban explorer too.
The clothes combined some vintage pieces with some of my designs that I have had produced here, as well as that amazing gold silk jacket designed my my friend Bruce Su. I’d been drooling over the recent Saint Laurent images from Hedi Slimane when we started planning this shoot. I love the rock and roll, vintage, glam styling of the campaign and the super cool accessorizing. I love the idea of combining so much glam, gold, silver, jewels together in a way that ends up feeling casual and laidback.
Santa and Visen were awesome to work with. Visen always brings along an assistant and maybe a student or two to help out (he somehow manages to be working like crazy and also co-run a beauty school). It was a hot Guangzhou day up on the surface, but down underground it was cool and we just got to enjoy the sunshine coming down through the window and skylight. It was super dusty and everything I owned was grey by the end – including my lungs – but it was worth it.
I love the results! Check out the whole shoot here.
